Folks,

We are planning to do a host based migration from one celerra to another. I need some guidelines and watchouts. Please note: there is no other option other than host based for us so please discuss about host-based migration only. I know other options are easier and simpler.

The plan is to create new cifs servers in the destination celerra, create new shares, copy data using robocopy/securecopy. There are no localgroups.  We have mostly CIFS clients but there are some filesystems that are exported to both CIFS and NFS. We have not configured the usermapper manually for multiprotocol access, it is the way it was when we configured the celerra. My question is:

a] Do we need to worry about usermapper in host based migration of this kind?.

b] What could go wrong with usermapper during host based migration?

c] How to confirm before and after migration that usermapper didnt screw up?.

d] How to find out who is doing the UID and GID mapping, (is it the celerra usermapper or AD or LDAP or what)?

e] Can we backup the usermapper info in source and copy or manually add it to the destination usermapper?

f] Any other hurdles you see in host based migration?.
