Removing DAE2P from cx700

Question

We recently purchased a cx3-80 and would like to add some older DAE2P shelves to it which are currently attached to our older cx700. Just to get this out of the way...I am aware that using a DAE2P will degrade the bus performance on the CX380, but we currently have an entire BUS available for this...no DAE4P will ever see this BUS. There are no bound raid groups on the DAE2Ps and they are the last enclosure on each BUS (so its not like i would be breaking the BUS chain). My question...is there a proper way to remove these 3 DAE2Ps while the SAN is still online?

Hi,First of all Welcome to EMC support Forum.To answer your question - yes there is a documented procedure to uninstall/remove any DAE from the array - it is documented with CLARiiON Procedure Generator, available to EMC or authorized Service personel.I'll prefer to engage EMC CE to do the same as this will change the configuration of the two Arrays and the same needs to be updated in the EMC Install database - which your CE, once engaged, will do (assuming both arrays are supported by EMC).However, the actual process includes disconnecting the LCC cables from the DAE to be removed (one LCC cable at a time) and then from the other end of these cables (from PRI port of previous DAE in the chain). Ensure there is no LUN or RAID group on the disks of the DAE you are planning to remove. Once unplugged, you may power down the DAE and remove from the Rack.This will leave the DAE as Faulted in Navisphere and you need to remove the same - if you are running Rel 24 or later - you can Restart the management server on each SP one at a time - if you are running older than Rel 24 - you need to stop the remoteconfig on each SP using navicli command and then restart the management server on each SP.So, best bet will be to take help from EMC CE or engage CLARiiON Support.Hope this helps.Thanks,Sandip

Remember to unbind all LUNs and destroy all Raid Groups that use the DAE before you physically remove the DAE (if doing the work yourself).glen kelley
