How to migrate DX from one server to another

Hello,

We have a server change, and we have to move DX to a newer server, with different name.!

My plan is:

I make an registry backup.

I install DX to the new server

I make an registry restore (will it work, should I care something?)

I give the extended drive to the new server.

I hope it will work.

Has anybody done similar. Are there any experience?

Thanks.

Zoltan

    Zoltan,

It's a little bit more complicated than that.

It is recommended that you engage the EMC professional services. They will do it for you.

    Thanks

In other forum threads regarding migration, people mentioned a DX server to server migration utility. Is it available? Anybody used it?

    Thanks

Answering to the original question, the solution Zoltan described worked, on DX 6.2 SP1.

    1. We made a copy of the extended drive using Open Migrator, and allocated it ot the new DX server

    2. The archive on NAS (share of a Win2003 server) was accessible to the new DX server

    3. Registry log export on the old server

Attention, in our case the old DX was installed on a cluster, and the registry log was made using the node name, not the virtual hostname.

    4. We renamed the new server to the old server node name. fs1-node2

    5. Imported the registry.

    6. Renamed from node name, to the virtual hostname. fs1

    7. Run the dxotgkb.exe from c:\program files\otg\diskxtender\bin and selected option Change Computer Name.

    8. Then a last restart and everything worked fine.

    Hope it is helpfull!
