Clean install problem - No drive visible
I've been fixing my own computers for years but my new Dell Inspiron 15 has me stumped. When booting up a usb windows installation drive when I get to the screen where have to choose which drive to install the operating system on there is no drive visible. Did Dell intentionally set it up this way so we consumers could no longer fix our own computers? If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated. On my older computers I never ran into this problem but my last two computer purchases have this problem. The other computer is an HP.

You're used to the legacy BIOS.USB flash drives created for those won't work. You need UEFI-bootable USB flash drives.
Dell ships systems with IRST/RAID ON -- meaning you must pause the Windows install with F6 and slip in the IRST driver.
Which driver you need depends on the system model you have -- go to dell.com/support and enter your service tag. In the Drivers section, look for the Intel rapid storage technology driver. Put that on your flash drive, pause the installation and load it -- after that, the drive will show up as installable.
Alternative is to disable RAID if you're clean installing the driver -- then you won't need the IRST driver.

I use the same one I got off of HP's support site for my HP 11th gen chip computer. I copy the fold to the installation media and then click on add driver when I get to the installation step asking which drive to install OS on.
