Installing Red Hat Linux 9.0 on Dell Dimension 8300
hi all,
I recently purchased a Dell Dimension 8300 (P4 with HT 2.6GHz). I have WinXP Pro running on it. I want to install Red hat linux 9.0 (Graphics version) and am unable to do so.
My red hat linux cd probes for the hardware correctly but once its done, the monitor goes blank (since no signal from the CPU).
Do any of you have any idea as to what needs to be done about this and how to troubleshoot this problem.

I have done only one Linux install, Mandrake 9, on and older Pentium with no problem. I did note 2 basic differences vs Windows when installing Linux.
1. In the BIOS disable Plug and Play, Plug and Play OS.
2. Connect all hardware that you will/anticipate using.
Your monitor is probably plug and play so make sure this is off. You may also try using a different monitor if you have access to one to see if you can load the OS. Also patience. The hardware detect phase and packages can take some time to load.
