Adding RAM

I have 512 Meg of RAM and am expanding to ONE gig. When I install the additional RAM how do I verify that it is being recognized. I did'nt see my existing 512 in Device Manager as I expected. So how do I see my ONE Gig.    Dimension 8250  Windows XP Home

    You can either right click on My Computer>Properties and it will show on the bottom of thte General tab, or download cpuz http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php and click on the Memory tab.
