Changing Bios splash page
Bought a used computer and would like to change the Dell Bios splash page, the first page you see when it's booting up, because it has the name of the previous owner across the top. Previous owner was a college.
Any way to do that?

Hi D Hook,
Please follow the below mentioned steps to change the computer name.
- Click Start menu.
- Right-click “Computer." Click "Properties" from the pop-up menu.
- Click "Advanced System Settings" from the left side of the "Systems Information" window. Click "Continue" to any prompts that appear.
- Click the "Computer Name" tab. Click "Change" next to "Rename This Computer or Workgroup."
- Enter your new computer name in the "Computer Name" field. The name can be anything you wish. Click "OK" to save all changes.
- Restart your computer for the new name to take effect.

- Thanks for answering my email.I think, though, the information you gave was for changing the name that is put into the workgroup or computer name within the Windows enviroment.I'm would like to change the BIOS splash page, the first thing you see on the screen when you power on the computer. There's the word "DELL" in huge letters and above that, there is the name of the original owner: "********* Community College". I assume that was put in when the machines were purchased new and I would like to know how to change that out, since I purchased the machine from the college (can provide EBAY receipt if needed) and it no longer is their property. Is it a matter of going into the BIOS setup and changing something there? Or would I need to reload the BIOS? There must be someway to change that.I don't believe it can be changed using the Windows environment.When I put a new OS on, I named the computer when prompted by the Windows 7 installation program so that part is taken care of. Now I want to change the BIOS splash screen.Thanks and hope to hear soon.

Hi D Hook,
I would like to check if you have tried Loading BIOS defaults, if not I suggest you to load the BIOS to default state and check. This option allows you to reset every option back to the way it was when the system left the factory.
Switch on the computer by tapping F2 key.
Once in BIOS page, select “Maintenance” tab and hit enter > Select “Load Defaults “> select “Continue” and save and exit. Restart the system and check.Kindly reply with results.
Yes, I reset the bios to factory default when I first brought the computer home, hoping it would take care of the problem but it didn't.
Did some more digging the other day and found out it's part of the Computrace program that's loaded into the bios at the factory. (In the bios setup under Security.) Not able to be removed but only can be deactivated or disabled. Once disabled, it can never be reactived, which is okay with me. It's made by Absolute:
So I guess there's no way to get rid of the splash banner short of buying a new mb. Not worth it.
