Diagnostic Error Code 0700:0120 No Cache Detected
I have a Dell Dimension 4600 that is just over a year old an no longer under warranty when I unfortunately d/l a Windows Service Pack 2 update and now I am kicking myself :smileymad:. The computer runs really really REALLY slow. I have tried to uninstall the installation, reinstall Windows XP Home Edition and also Windows XP Professional. To give you an idea of how slow the computer is running: The last installation of Windows XP took over 6 hours to install. That didn't include the additional time it took to install drivers and other applications. I ran a Dell 32-bit hardware diagnostic test 3 different times and have come up with:
Error Code 0700:0120. msg. No Cache detected. Cache might be disabled, defective or not present. Then after I click okay to that error I get another:
System Error. msg. System_Error illegal attempt to disable.....
I Have popped the hood, so to speak and checked to make sure that all cards, including the memory was firmly seated inside the computer case. Everything seems properly connected but I am not sure what cache memory the error refers to. If anyone has any ideas or clues I would appreciate your input.

Hey BigBrother:
Just wanted to send a sincere thank you -- I had the same issue with Error Code 0700:0120 in Dell Diagnostics and my Dimension 4600 had been running like an old 286 machine for the past few months. I reformatted the HD, reloaded Windows, but to no avail. Then, I checked the processor compatibility setting as you suggested -- and presto, my machine came back to life!!!
Thanks Again,
Dan

tracygarci2,
Check the system BIOS (system setup) by tapping the F2 key during bootup and be sure that the CPU is not running in compatibility mode. You can find info on the system setup at this link:
