Excess RAM issues
Considering that with Windows 98 & 98SE if you were to install more than 512MB of memory it may report “There is not enough memory available to run this program. Quit one or more programs, and then try again or may hang completely; but, with XP this is not an issue up to the 2 GB limit.
I know that the issue could be eliviated by adding the following line to the [VCache] section of it's win.ini file: MaxFileCache = 524288.
QUESTION:
I have two HDD's, dual booting. C: to Win98SE and D: to XP-home, both clean installs. My system has 512MB of RDRAM. If I add another 512 will the RAM limit bug in Win98 present itself or did Win XP write the necessary modification to the Win ini files so that it will now accomodate more than the 512MB limit?
Furthermore, upon looking at C:'s win ini file, it no longers contain the familiar [VCACHE] section. Could this also be a problem if in fact the Win ini MaxFileCache entry would become necessary.?

It appears that my "old" Win98SE win ini file significantly changed in appearance and format after setting up the dual boot clean installations of 98 - XP. If there is no longer a [VCACHE] entry section in the win 98SE win ini file, how would one go about inserting the value of "MaxFileCache = 524288" for the C: HDD containing Win 98 SE O/S?

The Win98 drive will have the problem with more than 512MB of RAM. That is unless you do the "fix" that is listed on my memory upgrade page. With the fix from MS you can go to 1GB of RAM without any problems at all.
Your XP drive will not have any problems with 1GB of RAM.
