Major frequency noise when using webcam chat

When I am in a webcam and chatting I get major feedback from my speakers.  Sometimes I can hear myself and other times there is just major frequency noise.  What would be causing this.  My speakers are about two feet apart and i have a separate microphone (not the one in the webcam).
Help,

Sounds like you're getting feedback - the mike input is coming out the speakers, getting picked up again by the mike, ......

    a. turn down the speakers
    b. move the mike closer to your mouth, reduce its input volume
    c. use headphones instead of speakers
