parallel connection

I have followed instructions in Control Panel for connecting two PCs directly using parallel ports but cannot access my second machine (W98) from my main machine (XP) on completion of wizard. Have tried many times reversing roles of both machines - host/guest - and am becoming frustrated! Can anyone help please?

What type of interconnect cable are you using?  You have to have a "null" cable (one that reverses the data and control pins at one end).  You can't use a 1 -1 cable either on the Parallel (Printer) or Serial (Com) port or USB ports.

Firebird is right. You have to use a Null cable or a crossover cable (Ethernet) if you connect directly. The other alternative is to set up a network with a router
