Precision 650 Memory Upgrade Problem

Hello,

I have a client who purchased four DDR266 (PC2100) Non-ECC 1GB Kingston ValueRAM modules for her Precision 650 Workstation. I removed her existing four DDR266 (PC2100) 256MB modules, and installed all four new 1GB modules.

When the system is powered on with the new RAM, there is no video, no beep codes, and the system board diagnostic lights are lit up yellow-green-yellow-green, indicating "possible graphics card failure".  When I place the old memory back in the system and reboot, everything works fine.

Is this RAM not compatible for some reason?  And if it is not, why would it be showing a graphics card failure code?  Possibly something wrong with memory addresses with 4GB and RAM, and her particular AGP video card?

Thanks!

    travbeau,

The memory channel population that must be in identical pairs. Are you sure the memory is matched?

    Hi Chris,

Yes, she bought 4 of the exact same modules.  The Kingston model # is KVR266/1GR and the product code on them is 740617084511.   It is 2.5V.

I believe with the 650's, the memory must be matched between slots 1 & 2 and between slots 3 & 4, correct? But that shouldn't matter when I have 4 of the same modules.

I'm very confused as to why memory would cause a graphics controller failure code.

I don't recall what BIOS revision she is running.  I see that the latest is A05....would you be able to tell me the revision history on the 650 BIOS?  Maybe there is something in there about supported RAM, or this boot issue.    Thanks.

I do not see anything in the A05 about memory.

I upgraded from A03 to A05, and now the new memory works fine.
