Problems with basically everything

hello, the other day i got back from a trip and when i turned my comp on it did the system scan and it stopped at a file C:/windows/web (now its doing catscan or something...) i couldnt do anything and had to restart the computer. if i dont skip the system scan it will freeze on that file and ill have to restart but when i log into windows my comp constantly freezes and i cant even run some programs! i cant play any games or listen to music and sometimes it says im low on resources even though i have plenty of memory not used. anyone know how to fix this or direct me to a place where i could? also could this be a virus? thankx

    Loginname,

For your low resources problem, go to the second link below my signature. You will probably find some things which may ease that problem.

If Scandisk (I assume that's what you mean when you refer to system scan) stops at the same point it may indicate a damaged area of your hard disk. How long are you waiting when it stops? For a good tutorial on configuring Scandisk, go here. You might also try running a thorough Scandisk after closing down all running programs except Systray and Explorer using Ctrl-Alt-Delete, turning off your screensaver (set it to None), and seeing if it will complete.

To make certain the problem isn't related to a virus, do a thorough virus scan using the latest virus definitions. That will at least remove one unknown from the equation.
