boot up problem

On my Inspiron 5000 laptop I upgraded from windows98 to XP professional but something went wrong so I reformatted the drive but when I reboot it comes up with 'Invalid system disk - replace the disk, and then press any key'. My windows 98 Dos start up disk doesn't work. I formatted a fresh system disk on a non Dell pc running XP Professional but get the same message.
Any ideas ?

    kemlo,

It sounds like the floppy disks are not being read correctly. I would check them on another system, just to be sure.

Have you tried booting directly to your XP CD? You need to change the boot order in the BIOS.
