C800 Power problem

My C800 recently stopped working of ac power.  The power supply light goes off when plugged into the receptacle.  The unit works fine on battery power.  I pulled the MB and check the plug connection and found no broken solder connection or cracks in the MB at the socket.  I pulled the dc power board and plugged the AC adapter back in and the power light on the adapter stayed on, and when I reinstalled the dc power board back in the adapter faulted again.  I believe this proved that there is not a break at the socket, since the adapter 'sees' the dc power board.

Has anyone experienced anything similar and am I going to be lucky enough to just have to replace the power board to recover?

Thanks for all replies.

    Hi,

The DC card sounds likely from what you have said. You have to start somewhere, and a cheap part is a good place.

Just in case anyone notices the same problem with the C800, replacing the DC power board did fix it.  Noted some of the same issues with C600s, but I believe the DC board is built into the MB on them.  Glad Dell made it separate on this system.
