Having trouble with touch pad
I'm having trouble with the touch pad on my new XPS laptop. I'm sure it's just something I'm doing wrong, but I seriously can't figure it out. (My last laptop was Inspiron not sure which version, 4 to 5 years old now.) Please educate me.
Here are some of my issues:
1. Occasionally, I would try to "click" using the touch pad (e.g. tap the touch pad once), and instead the cursor moves upwards on the page.
2. Another time if I try to click, there will appear a symbol next to the cursor which has arrows pointing in the four directions and I would accidentally change the font size of whatever it is I'm viewing at the moment.
3. Another time, a different symbol next to the cursor that would do the scrolling action...
I want to figure out how not to accidentally get these effects, AND how I can reliably reproduce them when I do want them. Which I haven't been able to do so far. It's always an accidental thing, and afterwards I can't do it again despite how many times I would click and try to get the same clicking effect ;) Haha.

Here is a link for the service manual of one of our new XPS notebooks. It goes over some detail on what touchpad gestures are available.

You may wish to adjust sensitivity levels of the touch pad if you continue to have problems with the cursor jumping up. Click start, choose control panel and choose mouse. If available select "touchpad settings" then adjust Touchpad speed and Touch sensitivity until you are comfortable with the touchpad.
TB
If available you may also want to check and uncheck "Tap to Click" and see which option works best for you.

Typical! I can't figure something out until I ask the question, and then I find the answer all by myself. At least to two of my items
2. That's apparently due to "pinch zoom" - put two fingers on the touchpad and spread them out and move them closer to each other to zoom in and out. Nifty. Apparently my thumb keeps accidentally touching the touchpad which is what causes this.
3. Put two fingers on the touchpad and move them simultaneously in the direction you want to scroll. Again probably my thumb.
Still don't know about #1: what's up with the cursor jumping around?
