Inspiron 5150 does not shutdown
Hello!
Hope this is the right forum to ask this question though my question is not regarding batter power BUT regarding System Shutdown.
Hardware: Newly purchased Dell Inspiron 5150.
OS: Came with Windows XP Home -> Installed Windows XP Professional on it ("Delete existing Windows installation" during XP Setup).
Since this was the RTM version and I was connected to the Internet, I got hit by the Blaster when the installation was complete and the system was up (RPC shutdown).
Booted up and installed ALL the "Critical Updates" from MS Windows Update, including Service Pack 1 first.
Some devices were banged out in the Device Manager (USB controller, Video card and other system devices). Installed drivers for these from the DELL Drivers CD.
Thus, everything seemed to be fine now ...However, whenever I go to shutdown the system (Ctrl-Alt-Del), it just stays there with a blank blue screen and I have to do a hard shutdown. This happens every single time and not intermittently. I just received the notebook last weekend, so I would assume that the BIOS is fairly new.
PLEASE let me know if this is known problem OR you need further information to diagnose this.
Thanks in advance,
-AAC.
