Problem with e1505 sleep

I have a new e1505 running Vista Premium. Yesterday, I placed it in sleep mode while on battery power. Several hours later, I tried to rouse it, and I got a message saying that because the battery had reached a critically low level (10 percent), the machine had gone into some kind of state where the info was stored, etc., and that it would be recovered when I took it out of that state. When I took it out of that state, the machine was very unresponsive and unstable, so eventually I hit the power button and attempted a reboot. The reboot didn't work, so I hit the power again, and it went into some kind of repair boot mode. This worked, and everything seems to be working fine now (except for the fact that the machine lost the ability to see other devises on my network and I had to reset all that).

My questions: Am I going to experience these kinds of problems whenever the machine shuts down because of battery going into a "critical" level--whether in sleep or regular mode? Is there anything I can do to prevent this?

Thanks.

You should change your power scheme so that it Hibernates instead of Sleeps. Note that to rouse a sleeping or hibernating computer, you must press the hardware power button, not just press a key

thanks for your reply. I think I did press the power button, and it did come out of sleep. It was just that the system became unresponsive/unstable after I did so. Is there an issue about the machine coming out of either hibernate or sleep when the battery puts the machine into the recovery mode?
