Refresh Rate/Temp?

Is a refresh rate of 85 damaging to my Inspiron 8200's LCD Screen (UXGA I think? whichever one was advertised as "Ultra sharp" 9 months ago)

Is a temperature of 67 degrees celsius on my video card bad when im playin a game?

How do you get 85Hz on your LCD screen?  If it is available to choose while "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" is checked, your LCD is able to run at that refresh rate.  However, 60Hz is the recommended rate for all LCDs since LCDs do not flicker like CRT monitors at low refresh rates; LCDs are just made to run at 60Hz.  I don't know how you are able to choose 85Hz though, my 8500 WSXGA+ screen only has 60Hz as an option and the highest I've seen was 75Hz on a desktop LCD digital flat panel.  If you don't notice a difference from 85Hz to 60Hz, just set it to 60Hz.

A temperature of 67 degrees celcius is not bad when you play games, don't worry.  I think most cards get to that temperature when playing graphics intensive games and video cards are made to handle the temperature caused by gameplay.

In that case, you should not use 85Hz since it is a rate that your monitor isnt really designed to use.  It could be damaging if you use it like that for long.  Just choose the highest one you can get with the "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" box checked.  I don't think it's a good idea to uncheck that and choose a higher rate.  Anyway, there isnt much of a difference from 60Hz to 85Hz for LCDs because LCDs don't constantly refresh the screen like conventional CRT monitors do.  This is why there is no screen flickering for LCD screens at refresh rates that would cause flickering for CRTs.  So, put a check mark into "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" and then choose the highest one.

    All,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

LCDs operate at 60Hz.  This is a hardware limitation, and increasing the refresh rate will not give you any better performance.  I do not know that changing it will hurt your LCD, but it is not recommended, or supported by Dell.
