Too much info about Dell using 3 subcontractors for panels in this monitor which I just bought. How can I tell (step by step)if I have a Samsung, LG-Phillips or AUO panel in my 1907fp monitor? I've read that only the Samsung truly meets the spec info from Dell. What are options or is it not a "Big Deal"?
turn the monitor on and press the menu button: at the top it indicates your model number mine was smg (samsung) v4t05 which is the Samsung v4t05 LTM 190ex: 5ms response time, 1000:1 contrast -- great display.
I'm considering the monitor you just bought, the Dell 1907FP. Are you happy with the display quality? And did you find out which panel your 1907FP is using?
Lawnmowerguy...I received mine in less than 27 hours and as stated I was worried about the panels but here is what I did to check it out:
a.turn off the screen
b. Press the "menu" and "+" buttons simultaneously
c.while holding these down press the"power" button
d. once the screen comes on unpress all of the buttons
e.Press the "menu" button you will see "Smg V4TO5" at the top
f. go down ( pressing the + will do it ) to the Factory Reset, press the "menu" button and it will take you to the Reset Box, go down to "Factory" and press menu button again and a blue screen will show you that number ( SMG V4TO5 ) again plus "1907fp" and "LTM190EX"
these are numbers for Samsung panels --I don't know what the other numbers are for AUO or LGPhillips
Still taking time to check out everything on this monitor like using "ClearType" and adjusting other items as needed, but looks good so far...with discounts, taxes, free shipping, etc I got it for bottom line $255 in less than 27 hours
Sounds like I got the same monitor as uhm75, after doing the model check. Also got mine quite quickly (ordered Friday got it Yesterday) though so far I can't say I'm totally impressed with how it handles white and brighter color windows when I'm browsing the web and such...seems kinda washed out.
Colors seem fine in the middle, but the top half is almost too dark and the bottom half looks like there's an extra light shining up, washing everything out on the bottom half too much. I'm trying to figure out why it's doing this, as at my place of work we have a few of these exact monitors and I can't see any of these problems! Maybe my computer's video card isn't too great, but I've updated all drivers for it (ATI Sapphire Radeon Pro 9600 Atlantis) and this monitor.
I mean, it's quite nice, but I'm quite picky, which is why I chose this monitor. It had good ratings on contrast ratio and brightness, and that's important. I also had first hand experience seeing these at work and loved them, so I'm kinda surprised. Perhaps I just need to get used it.
Lawnmowerguy: My monitor is hooked up via DVI cable.
Interesting to note: I checked the model of the monitors at work today and turns out they are NOT Samsung, which might account the difference in the picture. I believe they are LPL?? I'm probably going to bring my monitor to work to compare these and see.
Did you resolve your display problems with the 1907FP. I just bought a 1907FP in January 2007 and my display is really poor. I have been checking out the net and found out that the 1907FP users a 6bit not true color TN panel. While it has a faster reponse rating you have a trade off on color reproduction, viewing angle problems and any backlight bleeding just compounds an already compromised display.
I have an old 1905FP which uses an 8bit true color panel (Samsung PVA panel LTM190E4), with awesome color reproduction, no faded or dark colors anywhere, no changes to the color and sharpness of the display as you move your head up and down or side to side.
If you value quality of display over reponse times then a 8 bit true color S-IPS or PVA panel is the way to go. These cheaper 6 bit TN panels are too much compromised IMO.
Dell needs to sell 2 types of displays, one for best viewing quality and the other for gamers.
