I am having a problem with my monitor.  When I turn on the computer, the monitor responds and the Dell logo appears and after that the screen goes black and there is a white flashing cursur in the upper left hand corner

 

I am currently using a laptop but I really need my desktop to work!!!

 

Any suggestions would be great!
