Resolution question regarding 2208wfp
I have a Dell Optiplex 755, Intel Q35 Express Chipset video adapter with a Digital Video Adapter Card Full Height,Dell OptiPlex 745 745c and 755, (320-5252) add-on card, hooked up to a Dell 2208WFP monitor digital adapter.
I am trying to acheive any of these three resolutions, 1280 x 800, 1600 x 1024, or 1440 x 900. They are not listed as mode types available. The 1680 x 1050 resolution is too high for some of my employees eyesight.
any suggestions?

I am assuming there is a PCI-E slot on the motherboard. You best bet is to get a discrete NVidia videocard. Even a low-end GeForce 6200 will do (30$ or 40$). Uninstall current video drivers and install NVidia drivers. From within the Nvidia Control panel, you will be able to create any custom resolution you want, including those listed above. Then you choose "videocard scaling" to have the scaling (eg: 1280x800 to 1680x1050) done in the videocrd,as opposed to the monitor, since the monitor can't do the proper scaling.
What NVidia Videocard Scaling does is display a visible 1280x800 resolution while sending a native 1680x1050 signal to the monitor. The monitor is getting the 1680x1050 signal that allows it to work properly and doesn't "know" it is displaying a visible 1280x800 image.
AFAIK, ATI videocards don't have a scaling feature that works as reliably as NVidia.
