Derectives

Hi,

I'm looking for a way (using directives) to skip a filesystem.

I know hoe to use the 'skip' directive, but once the backup is done, it will still show the saveset.

<< /dir >>

+skip: *

This will still show 'dir' as a backed up saveset once the backup is done. (yes, it will be empty)

So, I'm looking for a way to not only skip a directory, but it should also not show the directory once the backup is done

In above example it should not show /dir as being backed up.

Reagrds,

John.

As you can see from the Standard UNIX directive, you must step up to the next higher directory.

    << />>

    +skip: dir

    should do the job.

    Hi,

That’s what I thought, but for some reason it’s not working.

I could just deselect the directories I don’t need, but that would also mean future created directories will also be skipped.

    This is what I tried:

    << / >>

    +skip: shares*

    +skip: /shares*

    +skip: shares

    +skip: /shares

But still the directory entries are being backed up. (I want to skip anything starting with “share”)

It’s a minor problem, but since I normally can figure out how things work in NetWorker, this is a bit frustrating, lol.

These are the directory/filesystems available on our Linux client.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    John.

Structure will always be there.  See man pages for uasm.  You have two options - skip and null.  skip is the right one to use, but structure will always be there.  Note that if this is NFS stuff, then by default NW won't backup that anyway with or without directive.

I forgot that you should verify your NW client release.

We discovered that directives will not always be honored when our clients ran on 8.0.3.1.

Since we updated to 8.1.1.4, all seems to be fine.

I have to admit that i just looked at the amount of data.
