I've never used the offsite flag and have just tried now and got:

nsrmm: `offsite' is not a valid flag


I normally would track something being offsite using the location field using mmlocate:

mmlocate -u -n volume 'broom cupboard'

Then query with:

mmlocate -l 'broom cupboard'
mminfo -q 'location=broom cupboard'

We use the commands:
nsrmm -o offsite
nsrmm -o notoffsite

It sets/unsets the offsite flag for the volume,but there is no way to list volumes based on this flag.

"If NetWorker needs to read from a saveset that has more than one copy, and one of those copies is stored on a volume that is flagged as ¿offsite¿ in the media database, then it is least likely to pick that volume."

so good way is to use the command "mmlocate" as suggested by David.

We do use the location field, but as it happens both our copies are not online available for Networker. We have one copy at a location far away (location="Secured vault somewhere") and another one in a cupboard next to the robot (location="Cupboard")

So I would like to decide upfront which copy gets "asked" by Networker in case a restore is needed.

If there is no way to list the flag for each volume the only way to achieve this seems to be to select all the volumes that are really far away offsite and set the flag to "offsite" and to select all the other volumes and to mark them as "notoffsite". And repeat this whenever tapes get sent offsite and brought back onsite.

Surely there must be a better way to do this....

I believe the original will be asked for first, and then the clone copy. If neither is online it will ask for the original.
