Hi all,

This is a little new to me but I'm looking to connect 2 ESX servers together with fast speeds with SFP like you would with a crossover cable for the sole purpose of VMOTION I've never used SFP before so looking for advise on cards supported for my servers to buy, cable (5M) and receivers.  Here is my hardware hopefully it helps. 

 

Dell R710 ESX 6.7

Dell R720 ESX 7.x 

VCSA 7.X

Storage is rated at 6gb/s and not shared so all VM files just copied across.

Will the ESX servers pickup the SFP NICS without drivers and I'm guessing configuration is like a normal NIC in ESX.
