My optiplex is circa 1997 ref bfr5n. the internal modem has speaker and mic jacks and line and phone sockets.  i think it is an Intel, Shinmei, ambient, IF56A-CL/UK

IF56A-CL/UK is printed on the bar code strip.

the problem is that even with another 56k standard voive modem installed the device manager has it as an unknown device. it says that a driver is needed code 28. when i start the internet, the modem is not detected.

i dont think the problem is with the device driver

the o/s was origionally windows 95 but is now 98se. is this the problem? the two usb ports dont function either, but i have a printer installed and working on the other port.

any ideas?
