Connectivity Issues

Recently purchased Inspiron 1505 with an Intel Pro 3945 802.11abg mini card.  Purchased a Linksys router (can't recall which one but it was $149.00 if that helps).

I followed all the set up intsrtructions, enabled WPA, key'd the network and everything worked fine for about a day.  Now when I boot up and log on the wireless connection is made automatically for my home network but then drops sometimes after 2 minutes, sometimes after 10 minutes.

Sometimes when this happens my computer is no longer seeing my home network (but still getting week signals from neighbors) other times it sees my network with full strength but is unable to re-connect. When I connect direct to the ethernet cable from the modem I have no issues so I can rule out my cable provider.

Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.  I have not yet set up or removed either the McAffee or "Ghost" programs that the computer prompts me to set up on every boot up.  Was still debating there usefullness and I'm not sure that would have any impact either way.

Do you think that maybe your neighbors signal is interfering with yours? Have you checked to make sure there are no multiple IP addresses on the network?

I just downloaded the latest software, which I'll assume includes the driver and will advise on any improvement.

As far as any interference from the other networks I'm seeing......?  I know so little about this I can't say if there having any impact.  I would'nt think so.

How do I go about checking the multiple IP addresses on the network, and if there were more than one would that mean that someone else is using my network?

Didn't help.  Still loosing the connection after about 2 minutes.  Will not reconnect.  If I then plug into the LAN I get a "limited or no connectivity" message.  I have to power down the modem and router to establish a solid LAN connection or spend another 2 minutes connected wirelessly.

I'll be searching old threads but if anyone know's what may be going on it's appreciated.

Thanks for the info.  It's just odd that I have connectivity for a few minutes and then it's gone.  After it's lost is when I get the low or know connectivity message.  Tried the "repair" option but it didn't resolve the issue but did indicate that it couldn't repair due to IP not being established (or something along those lines.  I've only ever entered the "key" once.

I'll be doing some live chat with Linksys tonight and see how that goes.  If it doesn't work out I'll give your thought a try.

If there able to resolve then I'll post back on what the issue was.

    Thanks again.

    Hey,

let me tell you one main reason for ,imited or no conenctivity is "if the wireless security key is entered wrong" and secondly would be if there is an issue with the operating system and with your issue,i think its an issue with the security key..some systems or wireless cards are not compatible with WPA,so use the WEP key ..once you change the encryption.i think your connection shld work fine.lemme know if you still face any issues.
