TM 2300 setup issues

I have been on the phone with Dell tech support and my I.S.P and haven't been able to get the TM2300 working yet.

I have wired everything properly, installed the software properly, have the TM2300 icon in my WIN XP tray, and have access to the internet through the TM2300, yet it tells me I don't.

As a result, I can't get the TM2300 to send a wireless signal. I have followed all of the trouble shooting. IP addresses are fine. PPPoE is fine. Can access the online setup tool. Everything seems fine. Except that despite having full access to the internet, the TM2300 still insists that I don't.

I have had the exact same problem with another computer I tried setting it up on.

I am very computer literate, and I can't find a work around for this problem.

Any Thoughts?

I have had this problem several times. In my case, I had the router setup as an access point and not a gateway. If your truemobile 2300 is connected to your broadband modem (dsl or cable), it should be configured as a gateway and you will see the internet connection in the device status window. If you are truly just an acess point, then you will never see the internet connection in device status. This is a separate problem from wireless connectivity.

If you cannot get a wireless connection, it may be because you are using WEP encryptiuon and you entered the "password" or "key" incorrectly. I cannot tell you how many times I did this to myself.

Good Luck. Once it's working you'll love it.

Hi Steve, I wish it was that simple, but unfortunatley it's setup as a gateway.

I have played with every setting and it hasn't fixed it.

I also don't have WEP encryption running, so that isn't a problem.

Thanks for the advice though. Much appreciated.

The 2300 utility is defective software, so delete it you don't need it anyway.  Since you are on the internet, the 2300 is operating correctly and your computer is also set up correctly.  Enjoy.

    Hi John,

While being able to access the Internet was a big step forward from where I had previously been, I have still got a ways to go. The tm2300 is still telling me I don't have a network connection.

    As a result, I can't send a wireless signal.

    Thoughts?

If you are on the internet wirelessly, you already are connected to the 2300.  As I said above the 2300 utility DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY - DELETE IT!!!!  Windows wireless zero connection will handle the wireless connections.  This is explained in the users guides for both products and also this and the Inspiron - Network forums.  If you need to configure the 2300, browse to http://192.168.2.1

I'm not on the Internet wirelessly. That's the problem. I can run a wired signal through the TM2300 and access the internet. I cannot send and receive a wireless signal whatsoever.

The problem again is that while I can connect to the internet through the router with a wire, the TM2300 is telling me it doesn't have a network signal.

A few ideas then;  log into it and make sure the router is set to wireless enabled;  look to see if the WLAN or wireless LED is turned on; as a last resort, do a full reset to return the 2300 to factory settings and see if it radiates.  There have been a few instances of the 2300's wireless section dying.  One year warranty, IIRC, but don't hold Dell to that if I'm wrong!

I have cable modem and had the same problem not getting the router to talk to the cable modem (no internet connection).  For some reason, the internet connection settings changed with the firmware change so you need to reset them.

Open IE and type \\192.168.2.1 into the address and enter your login and password

Click on the Basic Settings tab across the top

Click on the Internet Connection Settings on the left

I had to then UNCHECK the box that says

Your ISP requires you to input Host Computer Name or Domain Name

You may want to check all the setting to see that they are appropriate for your type of broadband connection.

Click the next box at the bottom

Click Save and restart box at the bottom of the next screen and it should work.

    Good luck!

The unit was faulty. I returned it, and Dell sent me a new one.

    Everything now works perfectly.

Thanks for trying to help though.

    Much appreciated.
