Wireless adapter suddenly disappeared - relegated to unknown device

Hi!

I was using internet on my Dell XPS L502X and suddenly there's no internet (wireless) connection. I check my wireless adapters and its still there. But no internet. After reboot, my wireless adapter was gone!. I opened device manager and found 1 "unknown device listed". I suspect this is my wireless adapter. I've tried these but still can't get back my wireless adapter:

- System restore

- Check BIOS, no wireless adapter option, but the NIC was enabled

- Update drivers from Dell

- Flush BIOS

- Hitting Fn+F2 button thousand times - still not indicators

It still not working..Currently I use the USB wireless adapter. But I just bought this laptop and to lose the wireless adapter so early is devastating.

Can someone help me out?

    Alif,

Hit the Windows Key and the R keys at the same time. Type

    systeminfo.txt

REMOVE THE PRODUCT ID and post the rest of the information back here. (Preferred)

or an ipconfig /all log and maybe it will reveal something.

It turns up the problem with Centrino driver is that I didnot turn on the wifi switch (Fn+F2)..how silly of me..its working now.. The last Driver that I tried is actually working for me..Sorry to trouble you..

But you have any idea how the driver removed itself? Its so sudden..anti-virus perhaps?

If you noticed, the Centrino Wireless driver is the one of the drivers I've tried to install. If I uninstall it, It will become "Unknown device". The D-Link is my wireless USB adapter.

    aliflatif,

What virus program are you using?

Are you using any peer to peer programs?

    Hi Rick,

The adapter has gone missing again!. I only got a few minutes of it..then the wireless light gone, wifi gone..after reboot, adapter gone..AGAIN. I installed again the driver (Centrino Wireless N-1030) but this time it has #2 at the end of it in device manager. But I didn't see the original one. Its still not working for me.

I use Avira Free Version for anti-virus. I've disabled Windows Defender.

About peer to peer... I don't know if this is related, but I use Teamviewer http://www.teamviewer.com/en/index.aspx?cdsplit=D to remotely connect to my PCs in my country while I'm here. Also I use SSH a lot. Is this have something to do with it?

    aliflatif,

TeamViewer is not the problem, I have it installed for my home.

Start, all programs, right click on cammand prompt, left click run as administrator. Type

    netsh winsock reset catalog

    Hi Rick,

Tried your suggestion above..still got "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" error on my adapter. I think the adapter is fine because it worked this morning. Do re-formatting Windows a good option?

    aliflatif,

Erreo 10 is a driver problem.

    Code 10

If the device has a FailReasonString value in its hardware key, that string is displayed as the error message. The driver or enumerator puts this registry string value there. If there is no FailReasonString in the hardware key, you receive the following error message:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    Recommended resolutions

Here are some things that you can try to resolve this problem.

    Update the driver

In the device Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver to start the Hardware Update Wizard. Follow the instructions to update the driver.

You may be prompted to provide the path of the driver. Windows may have the driver built-in, or may still have the driver files installed from the last time that you set up the device. If you are asked for the driver and you do not have it, you can try to download the latest driver from the hardware vendor’s Web site.
