headset/microphone 3.5 mm jack unable to detect external microphone
I'm attempting to set up Window 10 for audio recording using an external lavalier microphone using the 3.5 mm jack / port of my Precision 7550.
Also plan to use the external microphone as default microphone for Teams.
I can set up my bluetooth earbuds( Jabra Elite Active 75t) for Teams microphone without an issue ( however I haven't figure out how to set up the bluetooth earbuds microphone for audio recording) .
The next options is to use an external microphone. However my system doesn't detect an external microphone (when plugged into the 3.5 mm jack) and I notice its only recording using the built in internal microphone.

I have a DELL E7470 with Windows 10 and need to record commentary onto a PowerPoint presentation.
The internal microphone sounds muffled and distorted so I need to add an external microphone but there’s no option to select it and verify that it works.
I’ve downloaded the Dell recommended drivers: Realtek High-Definition Audio Driver and MAXX.
I have a mini stereo jack mic and a USB mic and I’ve tried both without success. I bought a USB transformer with two jack inputs for headphone and microphone but again, no success.
At: SETTINGS>SOUND>INPUT only the internal Realtek mic can be tested. There is no other option.
At CONFIGURATION the only option is Realtek audio.
In the Control Panel>Sound>Record there’s an input jack mic option and the Realtek Audio option but only the Realtek one works. (badly) When the mic connected to the USB transformer for mic and headphone is plugged in a screen opens as: Microphone USB PnP Sound Device but there’s no way to check that it works and trying it in PowerPoint Record, nothing is recorded.
Surely there’s a simpler way to use an external mic to record commentary onto PowerPoint.
