I have been trying to figure out my connections for HOURS! Here's my setup: I have an Apple desktop hooked up to a cable modem hooked up to a wireless router (linksys). I have a dell inspiron notebook which connects to the router to get online. When I got the new printer, I did not know how to set it up since the driver won't work on a mac. I tried lots of different ways.
What finally worked (and now it doesn't) is an ethernet cable connected from the router to the printer, then, and I don't know if this did anything or not, a usb connected from mac to the cable box. I did not have to manually input the ip/tcp numbers, they just came up. I have one of the internal wireless things that I installed in the printer when I first got it.
All was well the first day, I took my laptop into the living room and printed out about 10 pages, but the next day it stopped working. Started to get an error message saying there was no communication with the printer.
I looked on the printer and found the tcp/ip numbers, input them in the driver set up, but nothing. I have no idea how to make the printer, which is connected to the router, identify my notebook. Any ideas?
Thank you!
Stacy
That's fine. How do I do that?
I've tried a few things this morning. I went through the uninstall process for the Dell AIO 966 app in my programs, but I still see the 966 folder in the drivers/printer folder. I had to download the driver because my disk came corrupted. Now the printer is not showing up on my printer list.
When I attach the usb cable (I've tried 2 different ones) from the printer to my laptop, it does not let me continue with the install process--like it is not attached.
Any ideas?
By the way, thank you so much for helping me!
Stacy
wirelessly setting up your printer would go smooth if you just make sure that you have a working network, and that you uninstall the printer completely before you proceed. check the add / remove programs list and on the dell printer 966 list on your all programs and make sure that the printer is uninstalled. if not, uninstall and restart your system. try to check on the printer itself if it is getting a valid IP address, and that is by going to setup on the operator panel and checking on the tcp / ip address on the printer. try to use the downloaded driver from the website, and use the network installation. if the priter is getting a valid IP address, try not to connect it to your computer during installation. if the printer IP shows up during installation, just select that, or if it does not show, try to manually add the printer and enter its IP address.. :smileyhappy:
Thanks for your help. What finally worked was connecting the ethernet cable from printer to router, then, the key part was to scroll down to the Network setup button on the printer and select "Auto" instead of ethernet or wireless. It then configured itself and my computer was able to identify the printer and vice versa. All with no usb necessary!
Before that, even when I would manually input the tcp/ip numbers, it would not show up to configure it.
Hi You helped me a while back with this post. I got my printer to work from my wireless laptop....for a day. I have an ethernet cable connected from the printer to the linksys router (which is connected to a cable modem). The printer Network Set Up is set on Auto. When I go through the set up like this, I don't use a usb cable to go wirelessly. Also, the printer's icon is an ethernet icon, not a wireless tower icon. When I've tried to input the tcp/ip manually, it does not configure it--even when I add it manually after finding the address on the computer. I go through the whole set up process to configure the network. Although I get an error message just before it updates the driver, it connects, or seems to, to print a test page and even a couple pages from my computer. But then when I try to print a bit later it gives me an error message and won't print anything. Any ideas? Stacy
