I get a lot of e-mail and I am looking for a nice way to easily move it to a better location. For example, for a few weeks lots of e-mail will concern a few specific legal cases. Then it will involve different cases. I keep all documents (Word, pdf, images, etc.) for each case in Word folders. Saving mail from OL (2002 and 2003) to those folders is pretty tedious and cumbersome. It would be easy to create more folders in my mailbox, but I would soon have a huge number of mailbox folders (most of them no longer active), probably rivalling the number of Word folders. And I would also have two separate locations for info on each case.
Perhaps I'm missing something, but it doesn't appar that saving a message to a specific file using File|Save As is that tedious? Or are you using a different procedure?
Alas, I examined the problem from the viewpoint of an old retired dude who simply doesn't receive that many messages which must be sorted. I saved one email message and had no difficulty at all since I accepted the default subject and only had to specify a destination folder.
Having received an insight into the task you face, I respectfully withdraw my suggestion. (We never had these problems when we communicated using stone tablets.)
Ah, you have a point. That I would spend so much energy trying to save the keystrokes involved in saving e-mail is probably a sign that computers have become too important in our lives, mine in particular. After all, how hard can it be to open an e-mail, click Save As, navigate to the destination folder, decide what format to save it in (Txt, msg, html?), give the message some name that will have some meaning (I usually put the sender's name and the date plus something to indicate whether it is the 2d, 3d, 4th etc.) message from him or her on that date, and then repeat the process a dozen or two times a day. How hard can that be? As my dear departed and saintly mother used to tell me when I complained, "God send you no greater harm!" Like all mothers, she was right, of course.
On the other hand, I couold just drag the darned message into an Outlook folder and be done with it. As long as I remember to look for a separate OL e-mail folder when I need to review a case electronically, I should be OK. On the other hand, we get periodic demands from our network administrator that we are storing too much stuff in our mailboxes. On the other hand maybe Outlook's AutoArchive will preserve that stuff for posterity rather than cluttering my mailbox.
BTW, let me acknowledge the great help you provide on this BB to people like me, the computer world's poster child for how a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing.
There is a way to manage/force all emails containing a certain topic into specific folders, I'd serch the microsoft knowledge base to figure this out...
