office 2003 pro

I currently have Works Suite 2001 with Word on my computer. Will Office 2003 Pro install over the top without conflicts, or should I uninstall the 2001 Suite?

Thanks, Jay

Jay, it will install without interference to WorksSuite except it probably will replace MS Word with the Word 2003 version in MS Office.

Works and Word should be uninstalled first. You will not be using it with Office and installing Office with Word over Works with Word will corrupt the MS Office common folders. You can just uninstall Word or not install Word in the new Office, but it might still have problems. It's best to uninstall everything.

Mary, on my XP (Pro) machine, it had WorksSuite installed and then I installed Office 2003 Pro and did not uninstall WorksSuite.  The Office installation did replace the MS Word with the 2003 version but did not touch or affect any of the MS Works programs and did not corrupt any data.  Although I wasn't using any of the Works programs I did check them and they all still worked.  My Word doc files are all in the My Documents folder and the Office install doesn't touch the data in the My Documents folder.

    Thanks Jack and Mary.
I did indeed uninstall my Works Suite 2001 and Word 2000 before installing the Office 2003 Pro. Low and behold the docs I had made with the old version of Word, I couldn't open. Tried the properties>general tab> change button to set  program to open with; was given the program Winword, which wouldn't open the files. Also the uninstall of Works Suite broke the  MS Picture It Publishing 2001, in which I created church bulletins. After I installed the new Office 2003, I had to reinstall Word 2000, Works Suite 2001, and MS Picture It to access all the church documents and bulletins I'd made. While trying to reinstall the old programs from Dell supplied discs, that came with the puter, I kept getting errors due to the disks auto running when I put them in. Had to disable autorun in registry, so I could choose what programs I wanted to reinstall. I had to reformat last weekend and lost some stuff, now I've got Acronis True Image and did a total back-up this time around.

Works uses a file format that Word cannot open. In Works, re-save the files with the .rtf extension and then Word should open them ok and you can resave as .doc files.
