My name is Karen and I am from Michigan. Please forgive me if I am in the wrong place here. Last night a friend gave me a Dell Laptop computer. It is a Latitude LM Model TS 30GS.
Her step daughter and step son had both used it. The step son was the last to use it. He apparrently deleted some things, drivers????
Anyway, she told me I could go to the dell site and download what I needed to get it running again.
I went to the site and am very confused. I can do a lot of things on my desktop computer, load programs ect. But as far as this I am confused.
I just charged the battery for the computer and have it on. This is the message I am now getting: (see below)
I wonder if someone could take a look at it and tell me if I am in the right area here, if I am what do I need to do now? I need exact, simple instructions on where to go and what to do.
If I am in the wrong place, can you direct me to where I can get help?
Thanks so much,
Karen J.

The following file is missing or corrupted: A:\PCM4\PCMVS95.EXE

The drivers you seek are not part of Dell. The missing drivers are for an external cd drive which may be a cd burner. If you do not have the floppy disk to reload the program, I suggest you look on Ebay for the original cd drive if you do not have one at all and edit those lines out of the config.sys file and any in the autoexec.bat file pertaining to the cd drive. Thanks for answering. I do have the external CD drive. I can take out the floppy drive and insert this one in. Now, this is a dumb blonde here. I don't have any disks to reload anything. I don't understand what I need to look for on Ebay. Can you type out exactly what I should look for there and also I don't understand what you mean by editing. I am really challenged as far as technology.
For a few days I could get the computer up and running, but now it only loads, shows me the Windows 95 logo and then goes into the blurb about the files missing, and I cannot get past that at all now.
BUT I HAVE A NEW DEVELOPEMENT!!!!
I spent a lot of time a few days ago searching the internet using my browser with the words
"ATAPI CD_ROM Device Driver "
I found a site to dowload the driver. Can you take a look at this??
Especially the windows stuff etc. Is this what I need???? I downloaded it to an empty floppy, and unzipped it. It has a number of things, including the install. Is this what I need??? If so, how do I load it onto the laptop when I can't get past this message now? I can't get the desk top anymore, I did a few days ago, now I can't.
I am trying to remember. Isn't there a way to load something from the floppy drive when you can't get the desk top or Windows to start, by pushing a key in rapid succession?? Of am I dreaming???
