Hiya, my machine is a Latitude C640 P4m-1.8Ghz 1Gb Ram 40Gb HD & DVD/CDRW combo drive, all running from XP Pro.

 

I know that the drive is a DVD reader & CDRW, the drive reads all formats correctly and there is no problems on the reading side of things. However my problem is when I try to burn files. I will drag files to the drive, click the balloon to write files to disc etc and the usual proceedure happens correctly, but about 5-15 seconds before the process is complete I get the following Error:

CANNOT COMPLETE THE CD WRITING WIZARD

 

There was an error in the writing process. The disc you have attempted to write may no longer be usable.

I thought it might be driver related, but would like clarification. I havn't installed a dedicated driver as windows automatically installed it's own drivers and listed the drive as HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4240N, but in the download section of the Dell site there isn't a specific driver for this(it's listed slightly differently), however i've installed the chipset drivers so would assume this would also list the drive correctly.

 

I have also set the burn speed in windows to x4, as certain problems generally only occur at fast speeds so i've erred on the side of caution.

 

The driver listed in my device manager is as follows:

 

Driver: Microsoft

Driver Date: 01/07/2001

Driver Ver: 5.1.2535.0

 

If anyone could advise or help(especially if they had the same problem), then i'd be very grateful. Thank you in advance for any help.
