Internal DVD drive not recognized.

Hi there,

I have a Dell Latitude D830 running Windows XP Pro SP3. Like most I have a DVD drive in the right hand media bay.

I wanted to run a scanner/diagnostics tool and manual for my vehicle, which have a huge gig, and so I bought a second Toshiba HDD, to match my existing. This HDD. I inserted it into the media bay without a problem. I installed the program and it worked fine. I then took out the HDD, because of slower operating time, and reinserted the DVD drive. I did this 2 or 3 times. Now my media bay is not recognizing anything, HDD or DVD player. Has the software rewritten itself or is it a parts problem? This seemed to happen after I uninstalled SpyHunter and installed Wise Care bug detection. I believe these laptops use a EIDE interface. Have I overloaded it?

I can use an external powered Dell caddy for the DVD player and HDD, but it will not run my software. I appreciate any help as I would at least like to get the DVD drive working again.

Thanks for your time.
