Have had my XPS for a week now, have a 250Gig hard drive with automatic Ghost BackUp. The 250gig is partitioned into C & D drives. C has about 177gig and D has about 73gig of space. My C-Drive currently has about 17gig worth of space used so far. I also have an external 160gig hard drive which is about 132gig used up. What's happening is my Ghost drive keeps coming up saying that its low on space.
This I cannot figure; as I'm only using 17gig on C, how can 17gig on C use up all of 73gig on the D backup drive?
Check the size of the backup to see if I'm correct but I assume it is simply telling you that one harddisk is way smaller than the other even though it is not actually a problem.
I managed to find out what I needed to know. First of all I goofed when setting up the backup datasaver and inadvertently included my external 160gig hard drive with is almost filled. Ergo- the D-Drive backup is only 58.1gig so all it did was create a file 58.1gig big that was useless because the backup could not complete. I set up a new backup which only included my C-Drive and nothing else.
Next could I delete the 58.1gig backup in the D-Drive without affecting my C-Drive? Yes you can. So I did delete it. DELL online chat guy just couldnt understand what I was asking him so he gaffed me off to SEMANTIC Corp help desk. He answered my question about being able to delete the 58.1gig file, but then went to great pains to tell me that my backup system would not work because its not how much of my 177gig C-Drive that I'm using, its the fact that its 177gig and the backup is only 58.1gig and therefore I would NEVER beable to do a backup. I deleted the 58.1gig file in D-Drive.
Bottom line - I set up my program to only backup C-Drive, and I deleted the 58.1gig file on D-Drive. I've told my system to backup twice a week and of the 177gig C-Drive I'm only using 22gig and that has created a 16gig backup file on my D-Drive with room to spare.
I hope this helps someone out there because if you only believe with the TECHS tell you, well its my personal opinion that you'll be in a bigger mess then when you started.
