I have a Dell 8400 with a Philips DVD8631 and a Samsung CD-R/RW SW-2525.

 

My Philips DVD will not read or play DVDs anymore or locks up when trying.  Also when I turn on or restart my computer the DVD tray ejects all the way or half way.  When I insert a DVD and push the button to close it, it will close but then reopen.  I have updated the firmware with the CD21 (01/11/05) file on Dell's site.

 

I have emailed Dell but have not received a response.  Should I ask for them to send me a NEC replacement?  How hard is it to install myself.

 

Also, my CD-Burner won't record CD-R disk that already have info. on them when using Sonic.  It tells me to insert a new disk.  Works fine if I drag and drop.
