I opened the Roxio burning program that came pre-installed on my Dell 9200. When I open the software I get a window that opens called "Roxio Creator Plus Dell Edition" but the window itself doesn't fill in. It looks like just a Windows frame and I can drag the window around on my desktop but it looks like it's just a screen capture of whatever background was open behind it. When I move my cursor around over the window the arrow will occassionally change to a hand and when I click it takes me to the Roxio homepage where it asks me if I would like to upgrade to another version of this already outstanding software. I can't even see a "help" icon to figure out how to use the burning program.
I am running windows XP (won't touch Vista until SP1 comes out) if that helps anyone.
Should I just get rid of Roxio and buy Nero? I'm not crazy about that idea because if I had known that my Dell would come loaded with incompatible software I would have bought from someone else. If I have to go out and buy a burning program when one should have come with my new $1800 Dell, I'll never buy a Dell again.
You should have received discs with your system, one of which includes preinstalled applications. The Roxio program may even be on a separate disc. My suggestion would be to reinstall the program.
I've done that a few times and when I do that it tells me it will have to uninstall an older version first. I click "ok" and it uninstalls the old version and installs the newer version from the disc. Why Dell would send me a new computer loaded with an old version of Roxio along with a disc with a newer version is beyond me. The text printed around the edge of the disc says "Copyright 2005" so I can't image what older version came preinstalled.
Anyway, I tried to open the program again and it was fine! I burned a couple discs with no problems and closed the program. When I try to open it again the Roxio window pops up and immediately minimizes. It will not let me restore it or maximize it and I can do nothing with it again. One problem after another but at least I seem to be making some sort of progress.
That's where I spent the first two days trying to find a solution and it turned out to be useless so I came here. Hard to believe neither Roxio nor Dell can help me. I guess I'll go back to Nero, never use or recommend Roxio to anyone, and think twice before I buy another Dell.
