I am receiving the same critical system error someone in a thread below this one was along with the same "X" and question mark in my tray so I followed the instructions placed in their replay listed below:
Welcome to DCF
Deleting them doesn't always do the trick.
Let's try this:
Please download SmitfraudFix
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.
Download AVG Anti-Spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program
Once you have downloaded ewido anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
Select Change state" to inactivate 'Resident Shield' and 'Automatic Updates'Right click on ewido in the system tray and uncheck "Start with Windows".
Go to Start > Run and type: services.msc
Press "OK".
In Services, click the "Extended tab" and scroll down the list to find ewido anti-spyware 4.0 guard.
When you find the guard service, double-click on it.
In the Properties Window > General Tab that opens, click the "Stop" button.
From the drop-down menu next to "Startup Type", click on "Manual".
Now click "Apply", then "OK" and close the Services window.
Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG AS and update the definition files.
On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. If you are having problems with the updater, manually update with the AVG AS Full database installer from here.
Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
Under "Reports"
Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
Un-Select "Only if threats were found"Close AVG Anti-Spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet. We will shortly.
Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!
Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

And here are my results:

Viewpoint is bundled with AOL, AOL Instant Messenger, Netscape 7, etc and sometimes not mentioned in the license agreement.
Viewpoint is also bundled with Adobe Atmosphere and hardware manufacturers pre-install some of these applications
ViewPoint Toolbar will redirect your search queries and also transmits non personally identifiable information back to their servers
Viewpoint Manager is a media player often bundled with AIM software. It is not technically considered malware, but is borderline adware and is often installed without a user's knowledge.
Viewpoint Media Player is installed with AIM, AOL and a number of other products. Each installation of the Viewpoint Media Player is identifiable to Viewpoint via a Customer Unique Identifier (CUID), an alphanumeric identifier embedded in the Viewpoint Media Player.
For AOL and AIM it is needed to use their 3D icons known as Super Buddies and for customized themes, etc.
More here:
http://www.clickz.com/showPage.html?page=3561546
“Viewpoint will develop a behavioral targeting product in 2006, execs said during the company's Q3 earnings call.
It will work by collecting clickstream data on users who have installed the Viewpoint media player, then using that data to target ads and content on the company's partner sites. Viewpoint claims 120 million users have installed its player…”
If you wish to remove Viewpoint, end process on
ViewManager in Task Manager.
Remove it in Add/Remove Programs via the Control Panel.
Then delete the
Viewpoint folder in Program Files.
Open
Internet Explorer. When it is open click on Tools and then Internet Options. Then click on the Connections tab and then press the Lan Settings button. Do you have it set to use a proxy server?
Please launch
HijackThis and place a checkmark next to these:
If you are not using a proxy place a checkmark next to this:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = :0
If you removed Viewpoint check this one:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr_.exe
If you did not set this Control Panel restriction, or you did not have Spybot set it, fix this as well:
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present
Close all windows except HijackThis and click "Fix Checked"
Close HijackThis.
Reboot.
Run
Disk Cleanup in each user's profile:
Click "Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup"
Please make sure the following are checked:
-- Downloaded Program Files
-- Temporary Internet Files
-- Recycle Bin
-- Temporary Files
Click "OK" and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.
Please post a fresh log for final reveiw. Thanks. :)

Now everything that I was having problems with looks like it was resolved but I'm still receiving one more error everytime I start up my computer, it reads:
"Run a DLL as an App"
"Run a DLL as an App has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
And then it goes on about reporting the problem to Microsoft. I don't know what this is?
The "Run a DLL as an APP" error can have many causes. If you do a search in Google, you will see many people with the problem and many different causes.
Let's try an online virus scan with
Panda ActiveScan Here. You need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.
Once you get to the Panda site, scroll down a bit and click on Scan your PC
A new window will appear; click on Check Now!
A new window will appear; fill in the boxes (Country, State, email addy)
Click on Scan Now! >
If you have never used ActiveScan before, you will be prompted to install an ActiveX control (asinst.cab) : click on Install. Panda will install the component, and then install the latest signature files.
From "Select a device to scan...", choose "My Computer"
Allow the scan to run. It'll take a while.
When complete, click on "See Report", and then on "Save report"; save it to a convenient location.
Please post that report in your next reply. Simply open the text file, then copy/paste the content here. Also, please include a fresh HJT log. Thanks!

Sometimes it is not so good to follow instructions that are written for others because each computer is different. As you can see, the components of infection found on your computer are different from what was found in the other user's topic.
Without seeing a HijackThis log from you I am working in the dark. Please see instructions at the top of this forum for downloading HijackThis.

- Close AVG Anti-Spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet. We will shortly.
Thanks! :)Go to Start > Run and type: services.msc
After you have AVG AS, please post a HijackThis log in this thread so I can verify that we are moving in the right direction, and we can continue with SmitfraudFix.
