This all started when I noticed some odd broadcast packets being blocked on my firewall.  I traced this back to a ypbind service running on a Windows domain controller. That seemed pretty odd, so I did some more searching and found that the service appeared to have been installed with the Celerra CIFS tools, something an EMC technician had me install to enable NTFS auditing on my VNXe3100.

For now, I've disabled the service, because I imagine there isn't a use for NIS on a VNXe3100.  But I'm waaay out of my comfort zone here. Why is an NIS server installed with these tools? Do I need it? Why would that service be broadcasting network packets anyway?

(PS -- adding an Active Directory category under VNX might be nice)
