EMC basic questions

Hi  :-)

I'm new to EMC, got few basic questions...

1) how do I find out the version of the EMC storage from naviseccli ? (from one of the virtaul machines which uses the storage).

2) after performing a snapshot, how do I see the size of the snapshot? (snap -list does not give it)

/opt/Navisphere/bin/naviseccli -h xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx snap -create -res Consistency_group_name -name GEN_1

I ran the command:

/opt/Navisphere/bin/naviseccli -h xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx snap -list -res Consistency_group_name

3) I saw that before restoring, EMC takes a snapshot automatically. can I eliminate this ?

to create a snapshot I ran the command:

/opt/Navisphere/bin/naviseccli -h xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx snap -restore -id GEN_1

Thanks

    Hi!

    1) You can find out the model of array with "getagent -model":

    naviseccli -h A_APM00072802071 getagent -model

    Model:               CX3-80

You can also get the FLARE code version with "getagent -rev":

    naviseccli -h A_APM00072802071 getagent -rev

    Revision:            3.26.80.5.031

In this output, my CX3-80 is running FLARE 26

    2) Try naviseccli snapview -listsessions -cacheusage or just snapview -listsessions -all - you'll get a lot of data on your snapshot session

    3) I doubt you can remove this snapshot.  This one is taken automatically, so that you can rollback the state.

Let us know if this helps!

    Thanks Karl :-)

    getagent works for me.

but is there another way to see the snapshot size without snapview?

snapview in not enabled on my system:

    # /opt/Navisphere/bin/naviseccli -h xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx snapview -listsessions -all

This version of Core Software does not support Snapview

    Thanks

Since you do not have the SnapView license you have to mask out all but the reserved snapshots and reserved sessions used by layered applications such as MirrorView/A (and SAN Copy) from your output, so you can't use "-all".

    Instead, use "-reserved" as follows:

    naviseccli -h snapview -listsessions -reserved

    naviseccli -h snapview -listsnapshots -reserved
