bad_pool_caller

Am trying to install Windows XP OS again on my PC (long story short).  During the install, getting BSoD - "bad_pool_caller".  Rebooting only goes into the same install-to-BSoD loop.   MS site tell me that I need to simplify my hardware configuration and remove all third-party device drivers and system services (including virus scanners) prior to running setup.  But I don't know how I can do that, now that I'm already in this loop.  I'm at the end of my tether!  Any help greatly appreciated.

Try unplugging all external devices i.e. printer etc.

    Boot from XP CD.

Did his answer, which is the way to install/reinstall XP, get you out of the loop ? If yes, disregard. If no, can you get to Windows normally or through one of the options ?

I got on the phone will Dell support.  After going through their questions routine, they came to the conclusion I expected - reformat the hard disk, load all the drivers & software again.  Which is what we did via telecon till I could take it further myself for the rest of the software installs.  Back to normal now (fingers crossed!).

I'd be interested to know if you set your own virtual memory settings; if you do perhaps letting Windows take care of it wouldn't be a bad idea. There may be alink between your error message and tinkering with VM.
