Dell Keyboards/Mice don't function correctly on Vista
I have run into a problem in which my keyboards, especially the newer kind such as the KB212-B, and mice will not run after windows has stated that they are "ready to use". Upon logging in they work fine, it will then search for a driver, and once that is completed they will cease to function and the computer will freeze. I turn off the computer at this point, and plug the devices into new USB slots, but the same thing occurs, over and over again.
May I know if the issue occurs when you connect the same keyboard and mouse works to a different computer? And how long have you been facing this issue? Please try the below mentioned steps to troubleshoot the issue:
Click “Start”, type “Device Manager” and press enter
In “Device Manager”, under “Universal Serial Bus Controller” right click “USB Root Hub”, and click “Uninstall”
While uninstalling "USB root hubs", ensure NOT to check the box for “Delete driver software for this device”
Repeat this to uninstall all the “USB Root Hubs” and restart the system
To answer your first question, yes, and it seems in particular these keyboards we got as standard with our new machines. The issue seems to have become prevelant in the last month or so.
The problem with trying to troubleshoot is I only get use of the mouse and keyboard (if I actually do) for about maybe 2 minutes after I log in before it all freezes. In the past I have tried to rush over to device manager and delete the "usb root hubs" but I don't usually have time!
So I logged in as safe mode with networking and the same problem occured, but when I logged in with just regular safe mode, I was able to delete the USB root hubs and once done, I restarted the machine and the keyboard and mouse worked fine!

Hi Keef,
Let us try uninstalling the USB Root Hubs in Safe mode:
If you are able to boot the computer in Safe mode, please check and let me know for how long do the keyboard and mouse work in Safe mode.
