Hi, Downloaded Dell Support 3.4 twice now and keep getting error message "Error 1316." Update then stops installing. Is there a bug in the update or is it my machine? I'm trying to put it on my 8400 running XP SP2 fully updated. Thanks
Thanks Mary. However, because of this error message it never finishes installing and says to try again later. I have a 10/100 direct connection to the internet that is always on so it shouldn't have an internet connection problem. Any other thoughts on this issue? I'm currently running Dell Support 3.2. Is there anything substantial in 3.4 or should I just not worry about it? Thanks again for your help. Pete
Make sure you are connected to the Internet when you run the downloaded file. Google says Error 1316 is a network error. If you can't get it to run, skip it and don't worry about it. It is not crucial and loads every time you boot up unless you disable it. It's not an update. It's a whole new install of Dell Support.
I am also having the same error1316 A network error occurred while attempting to read the file C:\dell\drivers\R157977\DellSupport_.01.msi, I am also connected at all times to. Thanks
Thanks for the info. Good to know someone else is having the same problem. Unfortunately, I still haven't found a way to fix it. I'll be sure to post the fix if I can find one. Thanks again.
I was also having the same problem. A Google search revealed the following solution for me: Go to the Add or Remove Programs option in the Control Panel and remove the current version of Dell Support. Then run the update for Dell Support 3.4 again. This worked for me.
Thanks DHunter 113. Finally got a minute to try your suggestion. It Works!!! I'm surprised that DELL would put out an update that requires deletion of their previous product and not tell the user of this requirement. Now I'll at least be able to try it out and see if it was worth the effort. Thanks again.
Hi Crystal_Star, Just a follow-up to your posting. I found the help center download about two weeks ago and have found an interesting question about it. I can download it fine at my office and when it installs it deletes the old Dell support package. However, it won't download over my Qwest DSL at home and I don't know why. I saved the file from my work and took it home on a pen drive. It installs fine from that file except it does not delete the old version. Both versions seem to be running fine together. I even get both icons in the quick start tray. Again, Dell leaves us scratching our heads as to what's really going on. Thanks again.
I was having the same problem, but I found something on the Dell website they they just released today. It is called "Dell Support Center" and you can downlaod it here.
