Endless Check Disk Loop at startup
Every time I start my PC (Dell 8200 1.8 gig with XP) it goes into check disk mode.
A light blue screen comes on after the Welcome XP logo with the following message.
"Checking file system on C. One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency.
You may cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommended you continue.
To skip disk checking press any key within 10 seconds.
Check Disk is verifying files stage 1 of 3"
The first stage continues and completes THEN a blue screen appears with a page long message with white type for about 1/2 second so I can't read the message.
The above cycle goes into a repeat mode over and over.
By pressing any key within the beginning of the first screen I can get out of he check disk mode, and my PC seemingly works okay
I have attempted to go into check disk manually via my computer>local disk C>Properties>Tools and this also results in the completion of ONLY the first stage
Can anyone please help me with this frustrating problem?

You might try Command Prompt command CHKNTFS /D
chkntfs /?
Displays or modifies the checking of disk at boot time.CHKNTFS volume [...]
CHKNTFS /D
CHKNTFS /T[:time]
CHKNTFS /X volume [...]
CHKNTFS /C volume [...]volume Specifies the drive letter (followed by a colon),
mount point, or volume name.
/D Restores the machine to the default behavior; all drives are
checked at boot time and chkdsk is run on those that are
dirty.
/T:time Changes the AUTOCHK initiation countdown time to the
specified amount of time in seconds. If time is not
specified, displays the current setting.
/X Excludes a drive from the default boot-time check. Excluded
drives are not accumulated between command invocations.
/C Schedules a drive to be checked at boot time; chkdsk will run
if the drive is dirty.If no switches are specified, CHKNTFS will display if the specified drive is
dirty or scheduled to be checked on next reboot. ie: chkntfs c:

If restore to default ( /D) doesn't fix you could also check if marked as "dirty" with
chkntfs c:
You could also try chkntfs /t:0When Windows is not shutdown correctly it will perform an AutoCheck using CHKDSK on the next restart. This setting controls the time delay before running Autochk or whether it is run at all. (Time of 0 disables AutoCheck)
