Media Player

I didn't know what forum to put this in but maybe this would be the best.  When I watch vidoe's on the internet I have Windows' Media Player set to default for mpeg and all other movies except Quicktime.  And I have Quicktime set to just there own file type.  But every time I click on an mpeg video, quicktime pops up!  HELP

sure it is not a option within the broswer to associate certian files with a particular program?

The easiest fix for this problem is to get rid of the full Quicktime application (uninstall it using Add/Remove Programs), then download and install Quicktime Alternative which only interacts with QT .mov files, thereby letting Media Player stay the default media player. I use it and it works as promised w/o trying to become the default media player which is the problem you're having. Just be sure you uninstall the full QT application before installed the QT Alternative.

Quicktime can really tick me off with this kind of stuff.  Quicktiime, after installation, installs so many little registry items and start up applications, that I think, they are loading at start-up and "resetting" your preferences.  Check your processes to see what is running, and go into msconfig and check to see what is starting up.  I have at least 3 unchecked quicktime programs as I write this.

:smileyvery-happy:  I just looked at Windows Defender's Software Explorer in the control panel, and, guess what?  Quicktime was auto starting AGAIN.   Darn this thing is hard to control....

Will this Quicktime Alternative player still allow me to use Itunes?

Again, the Quicktime Alternative application only responds to Quicktime .mov file extensions, leaving Media Player the default application for your .wmv, .mpeg and audio files. As I said, it's an easy solution to playing QT movies w/o the ugliness of the full QT version takeover as the default media player.

Yes, I understand what you are saying.  But you need Quicktime to run Itunes and I am not sure if you need the full version to run it or not!

Sorry about that....and just shows how much I know about ITunes. The obvious suggestion would be to uninstall the full QT version then load the QT Alternative and see what happens.
