Mouse freezes intermitently
Hi,
I'm having an odd issue with my Inspiron E1505 since upgrading to Vista. This does not seem to happen until the computer has been on for more than 30 minutes. Weird.
I have a Logitech wireless USB mouse and I'm running the latest software from Logitech. Mouse movement will freeze for about 10 seconds every few minutes. But during this time, the computer is not locked up, just the mouse. The touchpad will work fine.
I've tried uninstalling the Logitech driver and software and using the default Microsoft driver for a generic mouse. Same problem.
All other hardware drivers on the system are the latest.
I can usually figure these things out, but this one is driving me nuts!
Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

- Same problem with a 9200 Desktop with Vista preinstalled though.Mouse, keyboard, everything locks for 30 secs to 1min then unlocks and runs fine again without a force reboot.This computer is 2 days old and Dell wants to replace the motherboard. Well I am in the first 21 days so they are going to replace the whole computer.I have the feeling it will not solve the problem.I ran an express diagnostics test and the USB keybaord would always fail even if I tried 3 different keybaords.

Actually, your issue is different than mine. In my case, the computer is not frozen. Just the mouse. Keyboard and everything else works.- Actually, I get the exact same problem with my Dimension 9200 and Vista Ultimate. Every 15-20 minutes, my computer/mouse freezes for 15-20 seconds. Dell has already changed my hard drive, my memory and my motherboard. I tried using a different mouse and it did not change anything. The only thing left to Change is my Geforce 7900GS.
- I got a call from Dell at lunch time. They told me to download the new DXP061 2.3.0 System BIOS that was just made available (DXP061-020300.EXE). So far, I've been using the computer 1 hour and the mouse hasnt frozen yet, I hope the bios update fixed our problem. You should try installing it before sending your computer back to Dell, it might solve your problem too.Charles
- did your keyboard lock up as well or was it mouse only? Everything on mine locks and then 30sec-1min later it unlocks.The only error message that ever occured was with my 7300 LE driver so I am still wondering if these nVidia drivers are to blame.
- Just to make sure we're clear. I started this thread with a different issue than what you guys are reporting. My Inspiron E1505 has only an intermittant frozen USB mouse. Nothing else freezes on my machine. And, there is no BIOS update for my notebook.

Everything worked fine when I was running Vista RC2. When I purchased final upgrade release of Vista Ultimate is when the problem started. Not a clean install - I installed over RC2.
I'm running out of ideas and I REALLY don't want to wipe the drive and start over. That just seems too drastic.
Any ideas?
