Network Card Disconnecting after 5 mins

Hi there,

We have an optiplex 755 with Vista Business installed. Bought Nov 2007. The network is disconnecting after 5 minutes no matter if there is activity or not. We are given a red cross in the network items. Sometimes it comes back and other times it does not. If we disable and reenable the network card, then we sometimes get a connection back. We have checked we have the latest drivers and we do. has any one else come across this problem.

Thanks in advance.

Have you checked whatever you are connecting to, e.g. a broadband modem or a hub somewhere?  Maybe the problem is not the PC but something external that is dropping the link.

the problem could be a result of two firewalls running at the same time (i.e. windows firewall and your antivirus').

Try reinstall the n/w driver and disable the mcafee firewall if u have so.

Hi, Thanks for replying, it now looks like the router is the cause, as i plugged the computer into another network, and it stayed on the network for well over an 1 hour with no disconnectings. Thanks Again
