My computer came with packaged software, some of which I am not familar with, some I am, and have deleted, and some I have kept.
Example: Norton Internet Security and Antivirus 2005
This I am keeping because it has a 3 month trial period before buying the product.
Some I deleted:
AOL
MusicMatch
Maybe some others that I forgot to record.
The following are programs I am not familiar with...
Power DVD 5.5 Is this trial and pay? Pay before using?
What is Qualxserve Service Agreement? If un-needed can it be deleted in ADD/Remove?
What is MusicMatch for Windows Media Player? Trial or Pay? Can/Should I delete?
What is ViewPoint Media Player? Trial or Pay? Can/Should I delete?
What is WebCyber Coach 3.2 Dell?
What is MyWay Search Assistant? I think this is the automatic homepage that opens up with Internet Explorer. I reset my homepage to Yahoo so I believe this is not needed. Can I delete?
What is Dell Support 3.1?
What is Dell Picture Studio v 3.0? Pay or Trial?
What is High Definition AudioDriver Package KB835221?
This might have been an automatic download from Windows Update.
I probably should keep this, but any info will be helpful.
Finally, my computer came with Corel WordPerfect 12. Is this trial or Pay?
I have the Corel 9 Office Suite on disk. If the above is Trial or Pay, I can reload my older program.
I realize that I have asked many questions here, but this is Saturday and the Customer Support is down until Monday, and (ahem) I am a bit impatient like all little boys with a new toy!
Any info on any of the questions will be greatly appreciated.
Once I become familiar with my computer and Dell, I will be more than happy to participate and lend support with this board.
i think the best thing for you is simply try out the programs, one by one, to find out whether they're full versions or trial versions. most programs are available in either form, and as such, it can depend on just what you ordered when you purchased your system.
for example, PowerDVD should be your DVD player (including software decoder). I'm willing to bet it's the full version. Keep in mind that certain DVD movie disks come with a "shell" player, such as "InterActual DVD Player" or (the older) "PC Friendly DVD Player"... but that these are merely "shells", that make use of your already-existing DVD decoding software. Meaning that, if you remove the software decoder that comes with your PC, you won't be able to play any DVDs (with the "hollow" shells).
if any program is a "MUST-pay" program, it will certainly alert you, before it allows you to use it.
and if a program is a trial version, that should also clearly pop-up right away... you can decide if you want to keep it for the trial period (and possibly buy it, if you really like it), or when/whether to remove the program.
Bruzzes: I see in your other post (possible erase of Sonic software) that you may be way-too-over-eager to remove "trial"/"temporary" programs from your PC. Just because you don't immediately recognize something doesn't mean it's unnecessary. And even if it's something you don't feel you need TODAY, you'll be surprised what you may require next month (or next year).
Hard drives today are HUGE. Hopefully, you ordered a large-enough drive, that it's 75% or more free/available space. if so, don't try to "clean-up" every last drop... you can spend hours, remove hundreds of megabytes, and find out you've gone from, say, 75% to 77%... just not worth it (IMO).
Even the "trial" software may prove to be quite useful, during its trial period.
But just be sure, before deleting anything else, that it's truly safe to delete.
I know I was a bit impatient with some of these programs.
After perusing some of the files, I can see some of the package software deals with Dell Support. I will leave those alone for the time being.
Word Perfect 12 is 60 day trial and then buy. I deleted that as I have a paid registered copy of Corel Office 9. My wife does not want to bother with it if the functionality becomes void after 60 days.
I deleted MusicWatch because it wasn un-needed program.
I will wait to see if I can delete the Musicwatch for Windows Media Player from tech support.
I had deleted the Power DVD package, but found it again somewhere and re-installed.
Still unsure which Sonic Program to download.
Thanks for the responses and the small rejoiner to not mess with what I don't know.
I am pretty close to where I want to be, and will await further responces.

How did you come to the conclusion that Word Perfect is a 60 day trial? It's the full product.
